Burrard Announces Innovative New Project In Seattle with Architects Herzog & de Meuron
Burrard Properties officially announces plans to bring innovative new urban living project to Seattle's Belltown neighborhood designed by world-renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron.
January 20, 2020 (Seattle, WA) – Burrard Properties (Burrard), developer of the celebrated NEXUS tower, is pleased to announce plans to bring an innovative new urban living concept to Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood designed by world-renowned architecture firm, Herzog & de Meuron. The proposed mixed-use residential building is expected to provide a range of fully furnished short and long term rental suites along with innovative services and amenities that promote healthier city life through wellness, convenience and connections within the community.
Located at 2407 1st Avenue, the project’s goals include enriching quality of life for its future residents as well as creating value for the surrounding community through world-class design and the integration of public-facing features and amenities that support economic vitality, social interaction and cultural engagement.
Slated to reach ten stories plus a rooftop terrace, the proposed building will contain an estimated 160-180 units and will stand apart in both its form and function. Burrard is delighted to announce that it has engaged the world-renowned design firm Herzog & de Meuron to partner with the celebrated Seattle-based architecture firm Hewitt, who will collectively lead the project’s design team.
“This exciting project seeks to set a new bar for urban living by thoughtfully responding to the contemporary needs of today’s city dwellers with a residential offering that integrates numerous, historically disparate lifestyle needs into a singular, optimized, elevated and hospitality-forward model,” said Christian Chan, CEO of Burrard Properties. “Furthermore, with the incredible design team that we have assembled, led by Herzog & de Meuron and Hewitt, we truly believe this project will be a significant architectural addition to Seattle.”
“This project is exciting and interesting to us on many levels. It is unique in its urban and public potential. The vision the client has for public programming in combination with the site’s historically rich location in the diverse, pedestrian friendly Belltown neighborhood offers great potential to create a new active place within this community. We also look forward to working in Seattle for the first time and getting to know this vibrant city and its amazing natural setting,” said Simon Demeuse, Partner in Charge of Herzog & de Meuron
“We’re thrilled to be part of this exciting project and offer our intimate familiarity, knowledge and expertise of Belltown’s urban and pedestrian experience. Capturing the spirit of Belltown combined with the thoughtful vision of Burrard and the innovative design approach of Herzog and de Meuron, the project will occupy a special place amongst the diverse history of the neighborhood ranging from the classic 19th-century structures of the Hull Building and Union Stables to the grunge era of the Crocodile. Drawing on these significant moments in Seattle’s history, this project will contribute to the future of Belltown with Burrard’s innovative, urban living concept adjacent to the new waterfront plan,” said Julia Nagele, Director of Design of Hewitt.
In addition to progressive urban design and architecture, the proposed building’s interior program positions the project as a cultural hub for the neighborhood – envisioned to include wellness amenities, co-working facilities, meeting/event space, a bar/lounge, arts programming and an open market-style retail/F&B operation.
Currently in the planning stages, Burrard Properties hopes to commence construction in 2022 with completion in 2024.
